Does the world need for humanity to become more introverted?

Many people believe that the world needs for humanity to become more introverted. This way, people will not feel so imbalanced and disconnected from one another. They feel that this would be a great step towards living in harmony with one another. As someone who is on the other side of this debate, I have been reflecting and questioning why we need an outward-looking society to begin with. Getting outside of oneself can be beneficial to an extent--but only if it is done right.
One of the main reasons that I am against converting to a more introverted society is because it feels like it takes away the individuality of people. Many people believe that we do not live in harmony enough with one another as it is. We constantly compare ourselves to others and we compare our achievements to others'. I believe that there is nothing wrong with comparing yourself to others if you are able to use it as a stepping stone towards doing better than them. However, this should not be the case for everyone.
Admittedly, it can be difficult to have a social life. One of the foremost reasons why I do not have a strong desire for large amounts of friends is because I feel as if I cannot be myself around everyone else. Perhaps it is the fact that I was in a very introverted house at school, but…I feel as if there are not many people who can understand me and connect with me. You can become a great friend to someone, but be not too close to that person as well.
This is where it got dangerous for me. When I was in university, I decided to try and climb my way up the social ladder. I began by making friends with people who were more outgoing. They did not seem to mind my quiet personality at all, and that is when my world became a lot more colourful! As soon as we got close to one another, I found myself becoming very popular among them.
